Volvo XC90 named Canada’s Best Large Premium Utility Vehicle for 2023

The XC90 has been awarded the prestigious title of Canada’s Best Large Premium Utility Vehicle for 2023. It’s a recognition that means a lot.
 


 
“With its long and esteemed history, the XC90 continues to impress, and we are thrilled to add this award to what has become a growing list of accolades for our brand,” says Matt Girgis, managing director, Volvo Car Canada.

The XC90 was awarded the title by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC), which hosts the annual Car of the Year awards ceremony. AJAC, which is made up of a number of unbiased journalists, media and businesspeople in the automotive space, rigorously tests the latest vehicles using real-world conditions, like actual highways and city streets. A number of parameters, including acceleration and braking, maneuverability and vehicle dynamics, are noted and ranked on a scale of 10.

Based on the criteria, the XC90 came out on top in its category. 

The XC90 and its mild hybrid powertrain offers a smooth ride with refined acceleration, making it a pleasure to drive both on the highway or in stop-and-go traffic. Three trim options Core, Plus, and Ultimate, have replaced the former Momentum and Inscription trims, and building a custom XC90 that fits all of your driving needs has never been easier.

As we continue to sunset gas engines at Volvo, four-cylinder-turbo B5 and B6 mild-hybrid powertrains have replaced the former T5 and T6 engines, including in the XC90. Other notable features of the award-winning SUV: third row seating for comfortably transporting groups, a boxy silhouette with attractive and modern lines, impressive towing capabilities, and a refined cabin with high-end finishings.  

Volvo is on a roll for being the best in class. Just last year, in 2022, the XC40 Recharge snagged the AJAC’s ‘Green Utility Vehicle of the Year’ award.
