How Long is the Volvo Warranty?

When buying a new car, knowing the details of the warranty is key to understanding what’s covered and for how long. Volvo is known for its commitment to quality, and its warranty reflects that. But how long does the Volvo warranty last, and what does it cover? Let’s break it down in simple terms so you can make an informed decision about your purchase.

What Does the Volvo Warranty Cover?

Volvo’s warranty provides excellent coverage for your vehicle, giving you peace of mind. For the first 36 months or up to 100,000 kilometers—whichever comes first—Volvo covers any failure due to faulty materials or workmanship. This includes anything that goes wrong because of how the car was made. Whether it’s a mechanical failure or an issue with the electrical components, Volvo will take care of it at no cost to you.

Additionally, Volvo’s warranty covers paint defects and surface rust for the first three years. If any issues arise due to faulty materials or workmanship, you won’t need to pay for repairs. This warranty also covers major components like the hybrid Lithium battery pack, which is protected for up to eight years or 150,000 kilometers.

If your car experiences rust perforation through any sheet metal panel, you’re covered for up to 12 years, provided it’s due to faulty materials or manufacturing. This means if there’s a hole in the body caused by corrosion from the inside, it will be repaired without charge.

Understanding the Hybrid Battery Warranty

For those opting for a Volvo hybrid vehicle, the warranty on the hybrid Lithium battery is especially important. The battery is covered for eight years or 150,000 kilometers, whichever comes first. However, it’s important to note that, like all lithium batteries, the battery will lose some capacity over time. This gradual loss isn’t covered by the warranty, but any defect due to manufacturing issues will be fixed by Volvo.

What Isn’t Covered?

While Volvo’s warranty is comprehensive, there are some exclusions. Normal wear and tear, such as brake pad or tire wear, are not covered. Additionally, loss of battery capacity due to normal usage isn’t covered under the warranty terms. It’s also important to understand that the warranty only applies to defects in materials or workmanship. Any damage caused by accidents or misuse won’t be covered.

Genuine Parts and Accessories Warranty

If you buy any genuine Volvo accessories or spare parts, they come with their own specific guarantees. If the accessory or part is installed by an authorized Volvo retailer within the first month or 1,500 kilometers of your vehicle’s registration, it will be covered under the same warranty as your vehicle. This gives you added peace of mind for any additions you make to your car.
