Increased range and new rear-wheel variants arrive with the 2024 Volvo lineup
There are big advancements to celebrate at Volvo as we welcome the 2024 lineup. One of the most notable changes in the fully electric models, including the Volvo C40 Recharge and the XC40 Recharge, are significant improvements to the range. These eco-friendly options are now even more reliable to drivers, particularly those who require further battery mileage from their EVs, with the C40 Recharge now able clock 477 km of range on a single charge and the XC40 Recharge getting 471 kms.
It’s a milestone upgrade, and one that has been made possible with the implementation of new powertrains.
Further, this is the first time that Volvo will offer a rear-wheel drive option for its fully electric models, further solidifying itself as a leader in the future of automotive electrification. These rear-wheel variants also help support the aforementioned range improvements, making Volvo EV ownership more safe than ever.
“These updates are another big step in our work towards becoming a fully electric car maker by 2030,” said Javier Varela, chief operating officer and deputy chief executive at Volvo Cars. “Range and charging times are new key factors for more and more of our customers, and these improvements make our fully electric models even more attractive than they already were.”
The existing twin motor all-wheel drive variants are also reaping the benefits and will experience extended range in the 2024 models. Previously two 150 kW electric motors were located on the front and rear axles. Now, one 255 hp electric motor, which was developed in-house, has been placed on the rear axle and there’s also a new 147 hp asynchronous electric motor on the front axle. This revised weight distribution has improved traction, and a more energy-dense, 82kWh battery and 185 kW (248 hp) permanent magnet e-motor have created a plethora of efficiencies.
As if we needed one more fresh upgrade to celebrate, there’s the charging power itself. The new battery pack means you can juice up faster than before, getting from 10-80 percent in approximately 28 minutes.
If you’ve been holding off on a fully-electric Volvo in anticipation of new upgrades, let this be your sign to take the plunge. Volvo and its EV mission is firing on all cylinders and the 2024 lineup is more powerful and capable than ever.
