Pure electric Volvo C40 and XC40 Recharge Comparision

They’re similar, but different.

Now, more than ever, drivers are considering the switch to all-electric vehicles as new EV models continue to hit the market. In the interest of this transition to more sustainably-minded vehicles, Volvo has introduced two all-electric vehicles to their lineup, the C40 Recharge and the XC40 Recharge.

These exciting new vehicles represent the future of the Volvo model lineup with similar advancements in on-board technology, EV powertrain and style, while still maintaining their own distinct qualities. Here’s a breakdown of both vehicles and their differences.

Interior and Exterior Qualities

At a glance, it would appear that both the C40 and the XC40 have a common exterior profile as both share an identical wheelbase and body width. However, the C40 features a lower body height, subtracting from the rear occupancy headroom due to the unique roofline of the model.

Cargo capacity is greater within the XC40 at 452 L in comparison to the C40’s 413 L. But in terms of leg and shoulder room, both the C40 and the XC40 offer identical metrics, providing the quality passenger comfort that is expected within a luxury crossover vehicle.

EV Range & Powertrain Performance

Turning to the performance aspect of the two models, each feature nearly identical battery-electric powertrains, with dual electric motors and AWD sensibility. This intelligent driving system allows for a combined output of 402 hp and 486 lb-ft of torque with a 0-60 launch time of 4.7 seconds.

As for electronic range, the Volvo C40 Recharge estimates a full range of 364 km, a slight advantage over the XC40’s 359 km, though many factors contribute to overall EV stamina. As for charge time, both models can be expected to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in an estimated 37 minutes.

Interior Materials and Driver Technology

In addition to both vehicle’s breakthroughs in electrically-powered engineering, Volvo has also brought a focus of sustainability to its interior craftsmanship. The Volvo C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge each feature environmentally conscious door panels and carpet fibers, made from recycled materials. It’s of great note that the C40 Recharge is the first Volvo model to be 100 per cent leather free, while still providing a comfortable, contemporary feel that drivers have come to expect.

Finally, the differences between the two models end with the on-board technology. The C40 and the XC40 both come equipped with an intelligent cross traffic alert system, a 360-degree camera, a Harman Kardon Premium Sound system and built-in Google Services (Google Maps, Google Voice, Google Assistant, and Google Play Store).
